Next, on what I'm hoping to turn into a reoccurring Black Owned Restaurants of Chicago series/tour, is Peach's! I found Peach's (4652 S. King Drive) on a list of the top 5 black owned Chicago restaurants and had to check it out. My best friend Amber and I decided to stop by for brunch the other day and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were told that it would be around a 15 minute wait, which seemed to go by fairly quickly before we were seated...

There are so many amazing black owned restaurants here in Chicago and a few weeks ago I realized that I haven't actually been to most of them. Therefore, I've made it a goal of mine to check out and support as many as I can this summer! The first stop on my little tour of deliciousness was 5 Loaves Eatery. It's a small breakfast/brunch spot on the Southside, and if you drive past too fast, you could easily miss it...but I'm here to tell you that you do not want to miss out on this place!

We started off with a big jar of 'Tiger Woods' to drink, a mix of lemonade and sweet tea. Loved it! It actually took my friends and I a while to put our orders in because it was so difficult to decide on just one thing on the menu. However, when the waitress came over and let us know that they were currently featuring shrimp and grits..my decision was made. Amber and I ordered cheesy grits and shrimp with a side of french toast and it was the best! Everyone must seriously head over there ASAP and try this for themselves before it's too late. My friend Grace ended up ordering the salmon croquettes that everyone was raving about online and she definitely enjoyed those as well!

I was very happy with the food, the customer service and the overall experience at 5 Loaves. I'm actually still day dreaming about the shrimp and grits!

Chicago is filled with such delicious food and it seems like new restaurants are popping up almost every week! I was so excited to be invited for a VIP preview before the grand opening of Mr. Brown's Lounge. This authentic Jamaican restaurant already has a location on Chicago Ave, but now has a new location that opened last Friday right below the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Ave. I've never been to an actual Jamaican restaurant before, so I was super excited for this experience. My coworker had never had never actually had Jamaican food before, so I made sure to bring her along!

We started off with one of my favorite drinks, rum punch, which was great! The next hour would be filled with back to back endless samples of amazing food! I enjoyed every single thing that I tried...from the jerk chicken and plantains (lathered in jerk sauce), to the island mac n' cheese and coco bread! However, I was probably the most excited about dessert. We got to try some very yummy coconut drop cookies and their special banana pudding! If anyone knows me, they know that banana pudding is one of my favorite desserts. What's special about this banana pudding is that instead of being layered with the usual vanilla wafers, it includes banana bread instead, topped off with a few plantains. Loved it! I would recommend everyone to try out Mr. Brown's Lounge! The prices are reasonable and the food is unforgettable.
