black owned restaurants of chicago: peach's

Next, on what I'm hoping to turn into a reoccurring Black Owned Restaurants of Chicago series/tour, is Peach's! I found Peach's (4652 S. King Drive) on a list of the top 5 black owned Chicago restaurants and had to check it out. My best friend Amber and I decided to stop by for brunch the other day and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were told that it would be around a 15 minute wait, which seemed to go by fairly quickly before we were seated...

We were soon approached by (who I think was) a manager, who told us that they were a bit backed up at the moment and that he could put our order in himself in the mean time. I decided to order the french toast, which looked pretty good in the photos on Yelp (I check the Yelp reviews before I go anywhere). I ended up getting peaches on top because, hey, it only seemed fitting. I also went for cheese grits and turkey bacon on the side. Amber ordered the salmon croquettes, cheese grits and a biscuit.

To have been backed up, our food came out faster than it ever has at any restaurant. I guess it was our lucky day because we just happened to be starving! I was so excited about the food that I had to do my little happy dance, especially since it reminded me a lot of peach cobbler...which just happens to be my favorite desert. I thought that the food was great and Amber enjoyed her meal as well. The only thing missing was mimosas (why isn't serving mimosas during brunch mandatory??)! Oh, and I still don't think I've found a place that tops 5 Loaves Eatery's grits.. but of course I was still pleased. The customer service was great and we got in and out before we could even realize it. If you're ever looking for a new brunch spot to check out, swing by Peach's and tell em Paige sent ya! Okay, no...don't do that.. unless you don't mind weird looks. :)
